Melani Wood

Melani is an award-winning producer of documentary, narrative film, and commercial projects. She also loves working as an assistant director and production manager for film and television. Her first short documentary Twenty Eight Feet—life on a little wooden boat was featured in National Geographic, received a Vimeo Staff Pick, and played at international film festivals including Hot Docs and Doc NYC. In 2021, her first feature film Bone Cage (dir. Taylor Olson) was nominated for two Canadian Screen Awards. One of the best parts of the job is collaborating with other filmmakers on their projects. Some favourites of note are production managing Murmur (dir. Heather Young), Bernie Langille wants to know what happened to Bernie Langille (dir. Jackie Torrens) and first assistant directing Bystanders (dir. Koumbie) and Compulsus (dir. Tara Thorne). Her most recent documentary Words Matter (dir. Stephanie Joline), featuring Mi'kmaq author, activist and educator Rebecca Thomas, premiered on CBC in 2022.
