Breakout Session: Beyond the Guidelines - Creatively Crafting Talent to Watch Applications

Jennifer Hawley is a filmmaker based out of St. John’s, NL. In 2017 Jennifer was selected to participate in Telefilm and NIFCO’s Picture Start program, enabling her to produce the short film, Casey. Her short film has screened at both national and international film festivals and was selected as part of Telefilm’s Not Short On Talent program, where it screened during the short film corner at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2018 Jennifer was part of a team selected by The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival to participate in Telefilm’s Talent To Watch program with the feature film, Little Orphans. Little Orphans went on to win Best Canadian Feature at the 2020 Borsos Competition at the Whistler Film Festival. Jennifer’s feature documentary, Hell or Clean Water, premiered at Hot Doc 2021 and won an audience choice award. Hell or Clean Water released on the Documentary Channel in 2021 and is now available on CBC Gem. Her next feature, Party Pirate premiered at the St. John’s International Women’s Film festival in 2023. Jennifer was also one of 60 producers from around the world selected to participate in the 2020 Rotterdam Lab. Jennifer is a board member for the Nickle Independent Film Festival and has now become the Industry Development Manager at PictureNL.
