Jan Miller, living in Nova Scotia, is a renowned international consultant and trainer in program design, content development and pitching. Jan was one of the co-founders of the National Screen Institute and is actively working with organizations across Canada and around the world developing and offering training modules. She worked with ScriptEast (an eastern European writer/director training program) for over a decade. She taught several years at the International School of Film & TV in Cuba and recently offered training and consultation for the AttaGurl international initiative from Australia, developing fiction projects with teams of creators. Jan also co-designed an international training program, Trans Atlantic Partners, with the Erich Pommer Institut in Berlin, heading up the program for eleven years. Across Canada, Jan has offered workshops and consultation for the Atlantic Film Co-operative, the Black Screen Office, WIFT-Toronto, WIFT-AT, TIFF talent labs, Women in Animation’s Animation Career Excelerator program (ACE) in Vancouver and most recently two brand new programs to support diverse and underrepresented Atlantic talent through the Lunenburg DocFest. Through Jan’s workshops, participants are supported and empowered to articulate their creative voice through specific projects and their lived experience. Jan served nine years on the Executive of the Canadian Conference of the Arts including 2 years as its President. She was a founding member of the Women in Canada Coalition, on the executive of the Women in View Board, on the Board of the Canadian Artists Network and on the Board of WIFT-Atlantic which she founded in 2009.
