Geographies of Solitude
Dawn George makes films with the beings she encounters in the wild! Her DIY approach to filmmaking reflects her appreciation and respect for movement, nature, science, and sound. She can often be found in the garden filming insects and plants; in the kitchen brewing a batch of eco-developer; or in the forest recording a trickling stream. Dawn’s works have screened in festivals and galleries around the planet including the Images Festival, Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, Imagine Science Film Festival, and the Gladstone Hotel’s GrowOp Exhibition. She has participated in residencies at the Independent Imaging Retreat, The Handmade Film Institute, and the Ayatana Artists Research Program. Dawn is a founding member of the Handmade Film Collective, a group that promotes the art of handmade filmmaking through workshops, experimentation, and screenings. She has been a programmer with Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival and volunteers with regional and national arts organizations.
